Oxycontin is a white, odorless, crystalline powder derived from the opium alkaloid. It is also called oxycodone hydrochloride which is known as a potent painkiller. This drug is used as a mild to severe pain reliever for patients with chronic pain. Cancer patients are usually prescribed with this drug and it has been praised for its long lasting pain relieving quality.

Oxycontin does not just lessens pain but it also gives the body a relaxing and euphoric feeling. This substance has a time-release structure that lasts for 12 hours. When taken properly, which is through swallowing it whole, it is safe and not destructive. Once abused, addiction would always follow. Abuse is done by chewing, crushing, or dissolving the pill into liquid form, and then eating the solution. When the drug is released, the effect is similar to heroin. Oxycontin addiction shows through chronic use and increasing tolerance so that more of the drug is needed to feel the same effects day by day. Consequently, like any other addiction, life is slowly disrupted and destroyed.

Once oxycontin addiction kicks in, an individual needs to increase the dosage to avoid experiencing pain. Side effects of the addiction include insomnia, muscle and bone pain, sweats, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, stomach cramping, and muscle twitching. Severe side effects could be highly dangerous.

Oxycontin is a prescription drug and is use to lessen pain. However, when it is abused and used for the purposes it also elicits dangerous effects maybe not sooner, but later on as the euphoric effect subsides. Once an individual experiences the “high” brought on by oxycontin, the person is reinforced to take in more to achieve the same “high” feeling. This condition is now called addiction. One former oxycontin addict testified that within a very small amount of time of consuming the tablet, he felt like superman, he could work all day, go home, and play with his kids. He has the notion that he could do everything he wanted. Common sense would tell us that the immediate effects of the drug are very attractive. As time would pass, continuous use of the drug would lead to dependence. Thus, you couldn’t get away with the drug. That’s when the problem starts.

Dependents on oxycontin admits that they have become dependent on the drugbut it’s the physical will to stop using the drug that is too difficult to deal with. Why so difficult? One, they have become very dependent on the drug then stopping would mean painful side effects. Every thing always has it’s negative sides. Once the intake of the substance is ended by an addict, he/she is more likely to experience withdrawal symptoms. Withdrawal syndrome is characterized by dysphoria, the opposite of euphoriathat entails sadness, depression, anxiety, and craving. So as they say nothing lasts forever.

A medical professional is always needed to cure oxycontin dependency. There are a number of means to treat oxycontin addiction. This includes medication and behavioral and counseling approaches. The substance methadone is helpful in eliminating drug craving and symptoms of withdrawal. Rapid detox is also one option to treat opioid addiction. Furthermore, medication is accompanied with counseling and behavioral therapy since addiction is not only biological but psychological.

Oxycontin is a drug prescribed by doctors to eliminate mild to severe pain and it is used among cancer patients who experience extreme pain. However, once abused, one may develop oxycontin addiction and thus should be put admitted to a rehab for treatment.

Some people may overlook this fact, but the fact remains that nearly twenty-six million people in our country are dealing with some sort of depression. Everyone on the planet has probably woken up depressed at some point or another. But these statistic people I just quoted spend the majority of their days facing depression. Depression is a frightening reality and can affect anyone. That’s why it’s crucial to get proper treatment if you or someone you know is diagnosed with depression. So here are some depression treatment facts. First you want to achieve remission of the depression. That means you have gotten rid of all of your symptoms. The next step you want to achieve is holding onto that remission. Those are the goals of treating depression. Sounds pretty simple, but this is a lifelong battle for those who suffer from depression. Depression tends to recur if it is not properly treated and maintained. The fact of the matter is that everything is o.k. for a while but then when the medication gets low, or gets forgotten, or the patient thinks that they are cured and no longer need treatment, the depression can come back even harder and be harder to get rid of. That’s why it is important to maintain treatment and always be aware that depression is no laughing matter. According to one website, treatment for depression happens in three phases. The first stage’s goal is to relieve the symptoms. This treatment usually lasts six to eight weeks. The second section deals with sustaining that remission. This time frame is usually around four to five months. If the symptoms return during this time, it is called a relapse. The third stage is called the maintenance stage. The goal of this stage is to maintain treatment therapy in order to prevent a new episode of depression.

Some tips about depression treatment facts are as follows:

Be realistic with your goals. Set achievable goals and don’t overwhelm yourself. Acknowledge the little wins. Try to get into the mindset of small victories along the way and not one big one at the end of a difficult process.

Be accepting of stress and work to reduce it. Be aware that stress will always be a part of life. If you are realistic about the goals you set and really think about what you can and cannot do. This will help you be able to manage stress so it does not overwhelm you.

Find friends and family who you trust and allow yourself to open up to them. It is natural to not want to involve the people you love with your problems. But they love you too and want to help you get back to yourself again. It is usually better to talk about your issues than let them fester inside.

Take time for yourself. It is important to have dreams to follow and take some time out to do so. It’s healthy and just as necessary as everything else you must do.

Depression treatment is no easy task, but being depressed is much harder. Do research on methods and ideas of treating depression and get on your way to a happier, healthier, and longer life.

Drugs are made to provide the human body health benefits. Medical professional prescribe drugs to make their patients feel better. These drugs do not however provide only benefits. These drugs may, for example, help an addict in the detoxification and withdrawal process but these may also in turn become another substance of abuse in the long run. These substances should be prescribed with close and careful guidance by the physician.

Methadone is a synthetic opioid used as an analgesic to treat patients suffering in severe pain and a maintenance anti-addictive. It is a thoroughly well-tested medication that is harmless and efficacious for the treatment of narcotic withdrawal and dependence. Heroin gives off an excess of dopamine in the body and causes users to call for an opiate continuously occupying the opioid receptor in the brain. Methadone occupies this receptor and is the stabilizing factor that permits addicts on methadone to adjust their behavior and to discontinue heroin use. Methadone suppresses narcotic withdrawal for about 24 to 36 hours. However, this is only successful in cases of dependency to heroin, morphine, and other opioid drugs. Methadone stops the high from heroin but it does not give the euphoric rush.

Through the test of time, methadone has been successful in reducing crime, death, disease, and drug use. For one, methadone is recognized to be the most effective treatment for heroin addiction. It also prevents HIV/AIDS. It may be trivial, but methadone maintenance treatment reduces the frequency of injecting and needle sharing. Moreover, methadone treatment lessens criminal behavior and almost eliminates heroin use.

Then like any other opioid drugs, extensive use of methadone and without proper guidance could possibly lead to tolerance and eventually cause drug dependency. When taken under medical prescription and under a physician’s care, research suggest that long-term methadone maintenance treatment use is medically safe.

Deaths occur more frequently at the beginning of treatment in methadone programs; they are commonly a cause of excessive doses (i.e. erroneously estimated tolerance) and they are affected by related diseases (hepatitis, pneumonia). Methadone generally entails the whole spectrum of opioid side effects, including the development of tolerance and physical and psychological dependence. Respiratory depressions are dangerous. The released histamines can cause bronchospasms.

Methadone dependency occurs when the body tolerates the drug thus, asking for higher dosage in the long run. And, once the habit is discontinued, withdrawal can happen. The physical changes brought by the drug are similar to other opiates; suppressed cough reflex, contracted pupils, drowsiness and constipation. Some methadone users experience sickness when they first use the drug. If you are a woman using methadone you may not have regular periods – but you are still able to conceive. Methadone is a long-acting opioid; it has an effect for up to 36 hours and can stay in your body for several days.

According to an article by two doctors addressing the question, “is methadone more likely to kill you than heroin?”, stated that methadone is not an innocent substance. One’s methadone continuation is another’s poison. Actually, it depends chiefly on the tolerance of the person. A lenient individual could take in methadone without feeling any ill effects, but not a non-tolerant person. For precaution it is wise to start with small dosage and bit by bit increasing it, if the necessity to use methadone really arise. Also, it was stated in the article that methadone has been used unlawfully in the streets as a substitute for heroin. Thus, causing more death than heroin.

Methadone is a drug used to counterpart substance addiction yet tolerance may occur leading to addiction. There is irony in this substance. You think it’s safe but you suddenly becoming dependent to it.
